History of St Joseph's Church (Bukit Timah)

1853 In December 1845, Fr Anatole Mauduit made his way into the jungle of Singapore in search of Chinese Christians who were labouring in plantations. In 1846, he founded a Mission Station near the Kranji River where he also erected a small attap chapel. By 1853, his congregation had grown so large that he built a new chapel – St Joseph’s Church, at the present site.
